|Review||Given the high ratings, I found Kin'iro to be highly disappointing. Most of the common route and character routes (barring the true route) has very little drama and real plot, with the setting being cheesy (normal guy gets thrown into girls dormitory full of rich and powerful people). While this isn't necessarily bad in itself, this means a good story will heavily rely on the attractiveness of its characters and their interactions as the driving force for keeping the reader interested. |
However, heroines and their routes feel extremely low effort with almost no character development or depth with the heroines beyond being their assigned gimmick. Take example Sylvia, who is the rich and powerful ojou head over heels for the protagonist, who also somehow lacks basic social awareness just in the right spots despite her position. Beyond their established template there is literally nothing else.
Or take example the sexual content in the story. Given the context of some of the characters and their relationship/situation with one another, certain sexual content makes literally zero sense and felt were thrown just for the sake of satisfying ero scene quotas. As the writers were not taking the routes seriously, it was hard to take any of the characters seriously and any of the story meaningfully.
This can be summed up with one core problem: if the game was just about "cute girls doing cute things", then it should be done as such, without the need of horrible plot or attempts at comedy.
Following these routes takes the reader to the "true route", where presumably its high ratings and praise comes from. However, given my opinions above it was already difficult to take the whole story and its characters seriously, and how much of a quality improvement the true route is compared to the others only served to highlight the flaws for me, rather than promote the illusion of a good story based on relative improvement.

|< report >I guess in the end this VN here is just a charage with some surprising twist at the true route, so as long as you didn't expect much it should be alright. I think. Oh and I must say that you might be a victim of high expectation just like the late Conjueror.|

@ #1, I think it's natural to have higher expectations, especially for a game that doesn't look straight up look like a pure charage w/ no substance (i.e. some plot/meaningful development is expected). I was interested in reading the game only because I've heard good things about its true route, so I feel like I'd have similar feelings at the end of the day.

|< report >@ #2 I have similar feelings, one could say. I frequently was left asking what exactly made Kinkoi so good to be more than just "another moege", and I feel like the answers given are...simply not satisfying.|

|< report >as one of people that give high rating to this vn, i know that you feel disappointed to this vn. kin'iro itself only good for joke, weird development that lead to deep one but not all (for some people) and character charm point. if you feel that none one of them is fit your taste, then kin'iro will be trash for you|
imagine princess evangile but with more charming heroines, more funny joke and some deep setting then you will got kin'iro
