ReviewI have only finished one route(chiwa) and oh my god this is really good. It’s so good that idc how the other routes play out, I’m giving an immediate 10, the only other 10 I gave is Subahibi. I see a lot of complains about the prose, but tbh I’m not all that bothered, it’s in the end, just a writing style, and art style even, maybe. Sure, it’s not amateur/translation friendly, but I think it helps tremendously build the world and atmosphere. Not once did I find it a bother. But, can we talk about the spelling errors? I think I see one every 15 lines or so.
Lastly, a little about the world. It’s a very mechanics based world with well established rules, and characters that only function within those rules, and simple as that might seem, hardly anyone follows the nowadays.

< report >I'd rate the routes in this order Haru=>Chiwa=>True/Kuro=>Hiori/Trash. As you can see, the true route isn't as impressive as Chiwa's and Haru's, at least it wasn't for me. It drags for too long and doesn't exactly follow the established rules, creating some plot holes. It's still a solid 9/10, better than most VNs. Also, Haru is the best heroine by far (her character design and seiyuu are just awesome). You and I are both lucky that we haven't read Hiori's route first, as it's the weakest and the girl herself is unlikable (or rather her choices in the route). I'd have probably considered dropping this masterpiece if I'd started from her.

On another note, unfortunately, the story doesn't follow the plot about hunting monsters from the prologue. There are barely any fights.Last modified on 2021-10-27 at 04:45

< report >I think I'm always glad to avoid choosing the best girl or order of preference, which by the way Hiori is the one that has the most psychological horror, apart from being a very dual route, with the best start thanks to Tooya's side story, which takes the most power to the narrative type it uses and its excessive repetition, (for me of the best moments offered by this visual novel) and its great climax, what a touching and divine moment.

I agree with what you say about the writing of the creator, I am in love and I love that he has found his own identity, I think that above all I love that he is distinguishable, among so many famous and unique screenwriters, he has made his own space too and this is his magnum opus. I just didn't even think about it until now, despite being criticized a lot with his prose, I just didn't even bother, the dream world I think is one of the most beautiful and deepest I know.

About the nightmare hunt, the psychological factor and human drama came first, the hunt and purification is still there, but it's not so flamboyant and it's more personal (it's the same for some in Alternative, when the moments of battles are not constant and are scattered, it's already demanding more of them, when his approach to them is different, more leisurely and more warlike, where the human drama, philosophy of life and politics is always ahead). I don't see it going shonen, which is not bad since it does it well, but I like that it bets for a more shakespearean narration like Fata/Morgana, Umineko and WA2, where the human exploration in its many facets and being karmic, giving more background to its dark and light side, is where it overflows more strength being a story where self-sacrifice are its climax.

This visual novel represents a before and after for the mahou shoujo genre (in my opinion it deconstructs it) and a peack work within the fantasy genre (in my opinion a definitive fairy tale, as much as Princess tutu is).

I hope you continue to enjoy it until the end, and that this story allows you to be reincarnated again and that the moments when the cherry blossoms magically bloom over you, you are loving all the experience lived in your life, good or bad, all are important and valuable, thank you for being born.Last modified on 2021-11-08 at 00:06

< report >Haven't played the game myself, but how egregious are the spelling errors? Are we talking wrong kanji for words, messed up conjugations, or something else? I can deal with minor kanji errors, but reading through bad spelling that frequently is a decent turn off for me.

< report >#3, I don't remember the kanji mistakes being too bad; it's as if the author wrote it in a rush and got some letters(?) the wrong way around. I remember errors but every 15 lines is a bit too much. Maybe there were points that it got that bad but I have definitely seen much worse. Patching the game will probably help. This game has much bigger problems with its writing than that. The game (much like me talking about the game lol) just repeats what it said 5 minutes ago over and over again, and they say the same old lines about sadness, loneliness, pain and suffering over and over. Don't get me wrong it's a good story but it's written like garbage.Last modified on 2021-11-08 at 11:23

< report >It's written like a dumpster fire after a rain. Just the torture I was looking for :'). #notamasochist and as a contrairian, I would argue that it adds to the mystic of the world building, since it's so confusion and our imagination is what drives our magic and when you can't sleep, try counting, recalling all the happy moments you had that day and what's important, is our relationship with the magical girl as a magical girl user also our magic is driven by what we imagine. It's all drilled it my head now. Help I can't get any of it out.

The spelling errors are annoying but arnt so batshit that it distorts the meaning, and that's what really matters. I agree, author typing really quickly, hitting the same character twice, forgetting to change a placeholder, ect. I did exaggerate on once every 15 lines, but with spelling errors, when you catch some, you feel like you miss the other 50 odd errors as well.

< report >#1 but..... But hiyori.... The girl who was deflowered twice............ I admit that partway, I was more obsessed with whether she will realise the hymen/dreamworld conundrum/debacle more than the plot itself. Lmao real hard when it actually happened. Btw, it might be obvious(it's between Haru n Kuro), but you kinda spoilt that Kuro route = true route.

#CherryOneesan exactly! You get it! I got double bamboozled by Hiyori, they can't possibly pull the same trick twice? Right? Right? And then got distracted by implied child porn and I'm coining the term Hymen Dreamworld Conundrum
More seriously, the MahouShojo genre has leaned too much on the psychological horror genre imo, turning it into just a dystopia. Read MahouShojo = bodyhorror Batman. Ive never seen it done this way, to build the concept from scratch, both the MahouShojo and the world they exist in to invoke such a sense of dread and beauty of the world at the same time.Last modified on 2021-11-29 at 06:26

< report >#5, "but with spelling errors, when you catch some, you feel like you miss the other 50 odd errors as well"

true af
it only takes one or two errors to make you lose confidence in something. it's why i can't play translations anymore. i find one or two errors or bits where you could be easily mistaken and i start doubting everything else.Last modified on 2021-11-29 at 13:32

< report >#7 ikr, the frustration when because there’s the voice over, every single mistake reverberates in my head. My god I never actually paid attention, but the translated work, which I semi-recently read, had at least one translation error every scene. It felt like, and I’m im prob wrong, google translate ran through it and a monkey did quality control on the other end.
