| Review | Higanbana 2.0, but with a love story. An apt introduction to Ryukishi07 for newcomers, but not so great for 07th Expansion fans. A predictable experience for those who are already familiar with the themes and prose of Ryukishi07. However, for the uninitiated, Iwaihime is a perfect introduction to his body of work -- like a best-off compilation of all the ingredients from 07th's previous entries. All the elements that made Higurashi and Higanbana are present: unreliable and paranoid narrators, SoL Highschool Club happy fun times preceding graphic and psychological torture scenes, a curse based on Japanese folklore, and lastly, a touching love story spanning through a millennium. Sadly, the story takes a dive 2/3 through due to heavy plot redundancy. |
