Review | Dropped after ~4-5 hours of reading. Where MC has sex with the other head of the snake The writing is somewhat incoherent. However, the author clearly has everything planned out. The characters are pretty decent. More interesting than the ones in Fata Morgana for example, which I gave a 7. So this getting an 8 seems fair. The battle scenes are decent. I haven't read many action/superpower VNs (dropped Fate) but they were alright. Creative. And the prose helps. But I'm not really fully stimulated. I didn't feel much at the cathartic scene where MC accepts the powers from the girl either. This isn't a bad VN. So let's say it's a 5/10. I'd give it a +1 for cool characters - I don't really care for the chuuni stuff, but the more down-to-earth characterization is nice. The introduction of the priest at first, the first two girl characters, the everyday life feeling was nice. I'd also give it a +1 for the planning. The mysteriousness here and there and in the first section (before "New Game") is generally answered and the mysteries have continuous payoff. That puts it at a 7/10 which I think is a fair enough rating already but I'm assuming that the buildup continues up until the very end where the payoff mechanically and methodically gets better and better so I'll give it an 8/10. Dropped it because despite nearly finishing the entire prologue (which I assume is meant to be a mirror, if on a microcosmic scale, of the rest of the VN) I was barely touched by emotional, or hyped at all. However the writing quality is definitely higher than what I've seen in other VNs like SubaHibi or Muramasa so the 8/10 seems fitting. Not that the author is necessarily better or more capable, but the writing quality is definitely higher. There's a difference. Overall it seems like a cool, stylish read with substance and philosophy and battles and interesting characters, but it's also trying a bit too hard to be cool and impactful for me. I don't even think it's trying too hard on purpose, I think it's just the author trying to have fun. But it feels like the author's having fun on his own without me and all I can do is watch on as a bystander as the author is having the time of his life. So yeah, dropping it. |
