ReviewMonochrome Heaven is a story about a girl who was kidnapped brought by a handsome young man who needs to get married, or he'll die from a "curse". After that, MC spends her time getting to know inhibitors of a strange mansion.

There are a few twists and revelation to discover on different routes, but generally the story felt stretched out thanks to constant misunderstandings and relationship drama. Akito is clearly the main guy, but his story was the most boring of the bunch imo, not even his sad backstory impacted me in the least. I was not expecting the sci-fi element in Touma's route either. At least the vn stays true to its gloomy and depressing atmosphere, none of the endings magically resolve characters problems completely.
The writing is quite trashy, using a ton of cheap romance clichés and tv melodrama plot lines, but I can't help but admire how ruthless and bloody some routes were.

Characters came off as one note and mostly insane. The only normal guy is Riku, while Ryuuto and Akito are completely mentally deranged. Runa the MC was a punching bag. I'm not against fucked up characters who do terrible things, but that's not the way to write them. I was also expecting some kind of believable family dynamic between Kamishiro brothers, but it was very underdeveloped. Imo that part of the story had potential to be the best part of the game, but alas.

Art is one of the strengths of the game: character designs are simple but effective, CGs are well dawn. Photographic backgrounds are fitting.

Sound department is another thing I enjoyed. OP song "Cry For" sets the mood for the game very well. BGM is also moody, with a big focus on piano. SFX are used well.

UI is good and functional because translators put original assets into a Ren'py and made it work. OG JP release looks far worse now.

All in all, Monochrome Heaven feels like a doujin version of DIABOLIK LOVERS(instead of vampires, you'll get a bit of incest and robot butler), so if you're an EOP otome player who wanted to experience that franchise, you'll probably like this game too. Would also recommend it to the fans of psychological horror. But as a traditional otome game, I wouldn't recommend this.
