Review"I personally separate my life to pre-Subahibi and post-Subahibi periods, as reading it has completely changed how I view the world. It taught me to appreciate life much more (or rather in a different way) than I used to and also be more honest with myself. It may have a similar effect on you, or it may do nothing if it’s not your kind of thing, but one thing is clear — you’ve got to read it even if it’s the last thing you do."

Instead of a normal review, I'm just going to jot down some of my thoughts on some good and bad points.

Good
- Character designs are some of the best I've seen
- Backgrounds are top notch art
- The background story of Mamiya & Tomosane is a fantastic & I loved the open ended twists of why Tomosane entered the savior mental state
- Last 1/4 or so of plot is peak
- Yuuki's role in the story is great throughout (minus KHD ending)
- Main Theme song is refreshing and could loop endlessly without loosing it's charm
- Tsui no Sora II ending lays out a lot of theories well before going off the rails
- A fair amount of well thought philosophical ideas make appearances
- Most of the "plot twists" were well done. Despite it being a "denpa" story in nature, which typically makes for confusing or overly abstract explanations, the different "twists" resolved in satisfying ways - still open ended, but appropriately so

Bad
- I have never turned off a soundtrack in a VN before. The majority of tracks are mediocre, but the bad ones are downright awful. The circus song and denpa theme (with repetitve AH AH) led me mute it & put on a playlist of Saya no Uta & AkaAka songs, which tended to suit the mood better anyways
- Down the rabbit hole part 1 is very boring moe-ge
- KHD ending weakens the other endings, and almost reverts some of the growth of tomosane from the other 2 main endings. The philosophical ramblings here in particular overstayed their welcome
- The first 3/4 of the plot had peaks and valleys strung together by scenes of sexually absurd & abusive content, that unfortunately, made it not very fun to read
- Takashima's route was painful & her role, unlike other characters, didn't resolve in a way that left the the same satisfaction
- The way the story is laid out makes it repetitive to a point where it is mind-numbingly boring. Seeing the same scenes play out multiple times can on occasion be interesting, but there are whole scenes where nothing of significance is added. You can already imagine what the characters are thinking from their perspectives in different situations. You don't need to see the same scene word for word with sparse added narration to understand.

The opening copy-pasta was the only context I had for reading this. Unfortunately I didn't know it was copy-pasta until I was already neck deep into this VN. While I can't recommend it for the some of the reasons I have listed here, I can understand why some people like it so much - but at least from my perspective that's blown way out of proportion. Feel free to disagree with any of this. I will totally not ignore you, and obnoxiously defend my perspectives with a religious fervor.

< report >I love this game but I have to agree with most of your criticism concerning the repetition, the game explained too much at times and I think it would be an all time great if it were edited a little shorter. They beat you over the head with the philosophy in the ending as well but I guess they did that so everyone would "get it".Last modified on 2024-02-13 at 22:35
