Review | I played to the PC version divided into 2 parts ; Kyoto Winds & Edo Blossoms. Kyoto Winds that gathers the common route + the beginning of the Love Interests route. Then, Edo Blossoms that gives each individual romantic routes of the LI. I'll put my review for both in one here : ❤ Very beautiful illustrations and animated sprites pretty nice that gives more dynamic to the game ❤ A lot of choices for the routes (12 characters!!) with an A++ casting ❤ A story mixing historical facts (concerning the Shinsengumi) and a bit of fantastic (I admit I preferred the realistic part though but the mix works well) ❤ That first part doesn’t focus only on the relationship between the MC and the LI. There are also a lot of interactions and developments between each characters, taking place over several years, which makes them even more endearing. ❤ Some characters are more lovable in their personal route (*cough cough* Sanan *cough cough*) ✖ The PC optimization is pretty bad ><”” I’ve got a lot of sound glitches (the music “saturated” each time there was a sound effect appearing), but also on two occasions I lost all my progress (CGs,encyclopedia...) and apparently it’s a problem that many players had and that is still not fixed by the staff. That’s super disappointing (found a solution by myself but it’s kinda laborious) ✖ The common route being 95% of this first part, finish all the routes is gonna be very VERY repetitive (thankfully the skip option exists, phew =v=). Also for the finale routes, some are a bit uneven in terms of storytelling imo. ✖ The MC is sometimes quite different depending of the route she’s in ; either she’s active & brave, or she’s too passive, or even sometimes she’s surprisingly enterprising. I wish she could have been a bit more constant in her personality (and not adapt it depending of the LI) ✖ 12 routes, it’s maybe a bit too much for me xDD especially since I think that they are quite unequal from each other (in terms of story and romance) ✖ The bad endings don’t have illustrations (;v;) it doesn’t give me the need to play those (I know some persons love to enjoy all the angst but personally I think it’s more satisfying with a little cg xD I’ll always remember the bad ends of dmmd game bcs of that lol To conclude, I understand now why Hakuoki was often quoted in the lists of the best otome. It has a lot of quality in its storytelling, the romance takes its time and I liked all the historical details of it. Not my personal favorite, but still a very good one! |
