ReviewA haunted house for adults. Shows the dark sides and intrusive thoughts people have brilliantly, even the most cheerful-seeming people. The plot builds and builds all the way to the end in an extremely satisfying way. Ryu isn't the greatest artist, so I appreciate he let someone else take over that task, The music is a major highlight, one of the best VN soundtracks (not the best, but it's up there). I'm a big fan of multiple perspectives and this has that in spades. The rhythm of the horror/eroge 1-2 punch is great, it toys with eroge tropes to deliver humor and horror. The prose is what makes Iwaihime, with crushed bones writhing in ecstasy as train wheels squeal their brakes on top of them. This is Ryu at his very best. Flawless. Epic. Incredibly underrated. Absolutely sugoi.

Is it for everyone? No. The shiniest diamonds have the sharpest edges. Some will find this VN unsatisfying for one reason or another, and that's fine. If you don't like slice of life or adolescent romance, you may want to give this a pass. This isn't an 80 hour VN that has something for everyone. This is tightly written horror by one of the genre's masters.
