| Review | Danganronpa is one of my favorite VN franchises. Yes it has a lot of flaws but has enough good things to outweigh them. Danganronpa is about a survival game in a similar style to Total Drama but more dramatic, suspenseful and darker story oriented execution. Story: The story is about a high school boy named Makoto Naegi who goes to a school called Hope's Peak Academy. He finds out that the school is run by a robotic bear known as Monokuma and must participate in a survival game called the Killing Game. Makoto must overcome many obstacles, hardships, mysteries and investigations during the story of the VN. The player can interact with the students and have a social link feature that can reveal their backstory, learn about what happened and other things as well. Characters: Most of the characters are pretty good except at times for Byakuya which I can understand he's supposed to parody the Elitist snob stereotype, but he overuses it too much plus the game always seems to use him a ridiculous amount of times plus he carries a lot of important info which some players would skip most of his dialogue due to his annoying arrogant attitude which would cause players to want to read a guide due to his personality. Gameplay: The gameplay plays kinda like Ace Attorney but with more minigames and most of the game you're spending time looking for clues and you must backtrack a lot which is done well for this game since it's a detective mystery. Overall: The first game is very good. I loved the humor, story, gameplay and characters. I get yes Danganronpa has story and plot issues but what story doesn't. |
