ReviewRecently, I finished Reine des Fleurs, and I enjoyed it a lot! These are my personal opinions, so please take it with a grain of salt.

Genre - action, adventure, drama, fantasy, slice of life, tragedy

Likes

- artwork / cg / sprite --> it's gorgeous and breathtaking! the character designs are also top tier <3

- voice acting --> the side characters and LIs brought out the emotional depth contained within the story well. sadly, violette (the mc) is only partially voiced. it would have been interesting to hear more of her!

- setting and worldbuilding

- plot / story and its execution --> it wasn't perfect, but i was definitely on the edge of my seat and constantly wished to find out what happened next!

- bad endings --> it's infamous for its many bad endings, but after having played through them, i think (for the most part with some exceptions), many of the endings added complexity and flavor to each of the guys and the overall story.

- loyalty ending --> despite the name, these are essentially the tragic endings. and dang, do they hit hard! i got so emotional at each one for every character. it highlighted the underlying theme of what it meant to be a knight and to serve the reine (queen) while also remaining true to each character's story and personality.

- themes/motifs --> chivalry, knighthood, duty, honor; finding one's true self/desire, relying on one self, etc.

- character dynamics --> one of my favorites is the relationship between asagi and uranami and ageha and leon. also a personal favorite is louis and uranami - they had the best dialogue exchanges!

- music - always a fan of love selfege's music!

- short stories

Neutral

- long common route --> after playing through it once, it can be skipped for subsequent playthroughs.

- Ravir system --> it reminded me a lot of pretend time from lover pretend with the timed choices. there's also timed button sequences, but it's nothing too taxing. it could be tedious, but i felt it worked well within the overall context story and what plot was trying to achieve. in particular, i think it helped to showcase the growth of violette's character as well as each of the main love interests!

Dislike

- pacing --> overall, i enjoyed the flow the game and how things were told, but there were some parts that felt it dragged a little too long (no shade to leon, as i still liked his character and story, but i'm mainly thinking of his route ^^;)

Favorite Side Characters
Uranami, Asagi, and Zero (spoiler on a side character)

Character Ranking
Ghislain / Louis -> Hubert -> Orpheus -> Leon

Route Ranking
Louis -> Ghislain -> Hubert / Orpheus -> Leon (this was a really tough one, but the scene at the end of louis's love ending stole my heart!!)

It's a game that is often criticized for its many bad endings and its tedious gameplay (both of which are valid opinions~) For me, I personally loved every comedic and tearjerking moment that I experienced. The solid characterization along with the awe inspiring music made for a dark, but also a gut-wrenching game that doesn't hold back. It isn't a game for everyone, but it's one that is staying on my shelf!
