ReviewI really think people should just get into this title blind. I know I know just looking at the artwork alone is already screaming in your face that this is a Ryukishi07 work and it is. thus there will be a certain level of expectation once they decided to give this one a try.

and certainly enough people compare this to umineko/higurashi and they come to this conclusion that this was a letdown. maybe its just the people approaching this title with the wrong expectations. and its really sad because first of all, this game is nowhere near as a monster text as umi/higu. this vn is relatively short and can be enjoyed in 7 sessions because at its core it's just 7 short stories combined into one package.

really maybe its just the people approaching this title with the wrong expectations.

so with that out of the way, go ahead and give this VN a try. and by try, I mean fit it into your schedule/timing/mood/etc and find yourself a good stopping point. The presentation will definitely weird you out since this is not the kind of VN format you're used to. well at the end of the day "content is king" as they say it I can definitely vouch there's very little padding scenes used here. what I mean with "padding" is writers trying to bloat the script with garbage SoL scenes that doesn't move the plot until they decide to move on. so there, if you're sick and tired of padding scenes this should fill you a good time. oh and speaking of padding scenes, weren't there A LOT of them in umi/higu? hmm, maybe people just want trash padding scenes huh? maybe that's it? maybe the reason they're disappointed with this one is because there isn't any padding scenes unlike umi/higu which I hated a lot btw?

< report >I think the criticism of Umi/Higu is incredibly unfair! Slice of life does not mean padding. It's time to grow to love the characters and learn about their personalities. The awful stuff that happens to the characters would mean nothing to me if I didn't know them. It would become tiresome torture porn at that point. //Spoilers for Higu ch.1// Keiichi's descent into madness and paranoia wouldn't have been nearly as unnerving without the scenes dedicated to learning about him and his relationship with his friends and developing my own conceptions about them. Your point about people going into Haganbana with skewed expectations is certainly a good one, though. Definitely agree that people shouldn't be going into it expecting a Naku Koro Ni game.

Slice of life does not mean padding.

there's always too much of something. but sure that's fair enough. I'm gonna blame that ultimately on writer skill.

< report >Umi has padding in it's language, particularly the superfluous narration and dialogue, but none of the scenes can actually be excised without losing important informationLast modified on 2022-12-21 at 21:23
